16 of 25 Majors Fell Under RSI 30 in One Session — and 79,220 Decides Whether the 7-of-8 Bounce Repeats

Sixteen of 25 majors now sit under RSI 30, up from zero four days ago. In the last eight readings this wide, Bitcoin was higher ten sessions later seven times.

Pile of gold physical bitcoin coins — 16 of 25 crypto majors closed under RSI 30

16 of the 25 majors we track closed Sunday under a 14-day RSI of 30. 23 of the 25 closed lower. The median major lost 1.52% and the worst, OP, gave back 2.90%. Four sessions earlier, on Wednesday 21 October, the count was 0. It was 1 on Thursday, 6 on Friday, 8 on Saturday and 16 today — breadth widened faster than price fell, which is what a slow bleed looks like when it finally reaches the whole board.

Bitcoin is not where the damage is. It closed at 80,428.00, -0.57% on the day, RSI 36.8, and only 2.34% under its 20-day average. The median alt sits 8.58% under its own. That gap — one asset held near the top of its range while the rest of the board bleeds — is the whole story of this reading, and it is the thing that decides whether the historical base rate applies. Data pulled from Binance daily klines at the time of writing.

Where the damage actually is

Nine of the 25 are under RSI 25: AVAX 9.8, XLM 15.3, ADA 16.3, HBAR 16.8, DOT 19.8, ATOM 21.5, SUI 22.4, LINK 22.5, DOGE 24.5. AVAX at RSI 9.8 is the single most oversold print on the board. XLM is the most damaged chart in absolute terms — 0.169, sitting at 19.6% of its 120-day range and 1.62% above the 0.1663 low it printed on 24 October. HBAR (0.07687) is the one major with a lower range position at 18.9%, and DOGE (0.0769) sits at 24.2%.

The next tier is crowded: FIL 25.5, ETC 25.9, SOL 26.4, LTC 26.7, NEAR 27.6, APT 28.4, ETH 29.5. ETH at 2,336.17 and RSI 29.5 is the largest asset under 30. At the other end, INJ 49.6, TRX 47.8, BNB 42.3, BCH 42.2 — the four names that never printed an oversold reading at all.

The eight precedents

There are 399 sessions of daily data on these 25 pairs behind this piece. Counting every session where 16 or more of them sat under RSI 30, and collapsing readings that came within 15 sessions of each other into one event, leaves eight prior instances in twelve months. In seven of the eight, Bitcoin was higher ten sessions later. The median ten-session return was +3.92%.

17 Oct 2025 — 18/25 under 30. Bitcoin +7.21% ten sessions later, equal-weight basket +7.77%.

21 Nov 2025 — 21/25 under 30. Bitcoin +1.36% ten sessions later, equal-weight basket -4.71%.

17 Dec 2025 — 20/25 under 30. Bitcoin +1.89% ten sessions later, equal-weight basket +5.13%.

20 Jan 2026 — 16/25 under 30. Bitcoin -4.71% ten sessions later, equal-weight basket -8.16%.

5 Feb 2026 — 25/25 under 30. Bitcoin +9.41% ten sessions later, equal-weight basket +10.40%.

30 Mar 2026 — 20/25 under 30. Bitcoin +7.47% ten sessions later, equal-weight basket +3.79%.

4 Jun 2026 — 17/25 under 30. Bitcoin +2.91% ten sessions later, equal-weight basket -1.82%.

29 Jun 2026 — 16/25 under 30. Bitcoin +4.93% ten sessions later, equal-weight basket +4.85%.

The basket — an equal-weight average of all 25 — was positive in 5 of 8, median +4.32%, mean +2.16%. The mean is worse than the median because one event did real damage, and that is the event worth studying.

The one exception, and the gap that makes today different

20 January 2026 is the miss. Bitcoin lost 4.71% over the following ten sessions and the basket lost 8.16%. What separates it from the other seven is where Bitcoin started: 4.29% below its 20-day average, and it went on to trade 12.21% under that average before anything bounced. In every one of the eight precedents Bitcoin was already between 4.13% and 25.84% below its 20-day average when the breadth reading printed.

Today it is 2.34% below — shallower than all eight. That cuts both ways, and both readings are honest. The bull reading: the largest asset in the complex has barely been damaged, so there is far less to repair before the alts can stabilise. The bear reading: when Bitcoin is this far ahead of the alts, the divergence usually closes from the other side, with Bitcoin catching down rather than the alts catching up. Nothing in the eight precedents resolves which of the two is happening yet.

What would confirm each side

The levels are clean. Bitcoin's 20-day low is 79,220.74 from 24 October, its 50-day average is 81,859.03 and its 20-day average 82,358.72. Repair looks like a reclaim of the 50-day while the oversold count falls back under eight on an up session, without Bitcoin losing the 20-day low. The January analogue looks like a daily close under 79,220.74 with the count still at 16 or higher — that combination would say the alts are leading and Bitcoin has not finished catching down.

Two caveats on the numbers. The 25 October candle is still forming, so today's RSI values drift with the close. And this is a base rate, not a forecast: eight observations is a small sample, seven of eight is a hit rate you would not bet a portfolio on, and the one miss cost more than the median win paid. Watch the levels, not the count.
