What is mining profitability & why it matters

Mining profitability is the difference between what your rig earns from the network (block rewards × your share of the hashrate) and what it costs to run (electricity, hardware, pool fees). Because network difficulty and coin prices move constantly, a rig that is profitable one month can be underwater the next — which is why you should always check with live data instead of old estimates.

This calculator uses the current network difficulty (fetched live, not an average from last year) and the real block reward after the latest halving for each coin. Enter your own hashrate and power draw — estimates for a specific GPU or ASIC will be far more accurate than generic charts.

Looking for a coin by country? See our crypto mining guides by country for electricity prices, local exchanges and mining rules, or check the mining tools directory for pool and monitoring software.

How the math works

  1. Expected blocks/day = your hashrate × 86,400 ÷ (network difficulty × 2³²) — the standard difficulty formula every miner uses.
  2. Revenue = expected blocks/day × block reward × current price. Block rewards are the real current subsidy after the latest halving (BTC/ZEC/BCH 3.125, LTC 6.25, DOGE 10,000, XMR tail emission).
  3. Cost = your rig power (kW) × 24h × your electricity price per kWh.
  4. Profit = revenue − cost. Break-even = rig power cost ÷ daily profit.

Network difficulty is fetched live (Blockchair, refreshed every 15 min); prices from the same live feed as the site header (CoinGecko, every 90 s). Pool fees, hardware depreciation and luck variance are not included — real earnings depend on your pool, hardware efficiency and network changes.
