The Internet Computer Now Reads and Writes to Solana With No Bridge — and $2.7630 Decides 3.55 or 2.41

ICP canisters can now read from and write to Solana directly and ckSOL is live 1:1 backed, but price sits 22.5% off the 3.6090 top and 2.7630 decides.

Blue-lit server racks in a data centre — Internet Computer canisters reading and writing to Solana without a bridge

The Internet Computer spent five years being explained badly. This month it did something that needs no explanation at all: its smart contracts can now read from and write to Solana directly, with no bridge in between, and the token that carries SOL onto the network — ckSOL — is live on mainnet, backed one to one.

ICP closed 21 October at $2.8900 and is trading near $2.7980, which is 22.5% below the 5 October high of $3.6090 and still 14.9% above the $2.4360 low it printed on 16 September. In other words: the network shipped two real releases, and the price has spent three weeks giving back the move that front-ran them. That gap is the entire story.

What ckSOL Actually Is

The Network Nervous System — ICP's on-chain governance — voted on 12 October to install the ckSOL minter, ledger and index canisters. Two days later the DFINITY Foundation announced that the Internet Computer now speaks Solana, and that ICP apps can read from and write to Solana directly.

The mechanism matters more than the marketing. The SOL backing ckSOL is held by a canister smart contract using threshold Schnorr signatures over Ed25519, which means the private key is never derived and never exists in one place. ckSOL itself is an IC-native token that follows the ICRC-1, ICRC-2 and ICRC-3 standards, so it moves at IC speed and settles inside canister logic rather than waiting on a third-party bridge operator. DFINITY named LiquidiumFi, MULTI/DEX and ICPSwap as the first venues able to hold SOL natively, sitting next to BTC, ETH and ICP.

Strip the jargon and it is a custody argument. A bridge asks you to trust a separate company that holds the assets. ckSOL asks you to trust the same subnet consensus that already runs the app you are using. For a token like SOL — a top-five asset with real spot depth — that changes what an ICP DeFi app can offer without adding a counterparty. The details are in the ckSOL design post on the DFINITY forum and the launch write-up.

The Second Release Nobody Priced

One day later, on 15 October, the Internet Computer's ChatGPT plugin went live in the plugin directory. It connects ChatGPT to ICP apps, so a user can read app data and make changes across more than one app inside a single conversation.

For a chain whose pitch is “the world computer”, that is a distribution channel rather than a feature: it puts canisters where the users already type. It changes no token mechanics on its own, and it should be read that way — but a chain that gains a consumer surface and a native top-five asset in the same week is a chain with two new reasons to be opened.

The Tape: A 2.9x Breakout and Three Lower Highs

The daily Binance ICP/USDT tape tells the whole sequence. The advance started at the 16 September low of $2.4360. The candle that did the work was 29 September: ICP opened at $3.1350, closed at $3.4400 and turned over 8.93 million tokens, 2.9 times the 45-session average. Six sessions later it printed its high at $3.6090 and closed that day at $3.5900.

Since then it has been a staircase down, not a collapse. The 12 October retest topped at $3.5500 on 1.5 times average volume; 16 October topped at $3.1190; 21 October topped at $2.9910. Three lower highs into a floor that has now been touched three times from below — $2.7630 on 18 October, $2.7940 on 20 October and $2.7950 on 22 October. Volume on the way down has been quiet: every session since 17 October has traded below the 45-session average, between 0.4 and 0.7 times it.

That is a compression, and compressions resolve. The retracement ladder of the $2.4360 to $3.6090 advance runs $3.1609 at the 38.2%, $3.0225 at the 50%, $2.8841 at the 61.8% and $2.6871 at the 78.6%. Price at $2.7980 has already taken back more than 61.8% of the entire move, which is why the next $0.04 matters more than the last $0.80.

The Levels That Decide It

Two numbers frame everything. $2.7630 is the 18 October low and the bottom of the three-touch floor — a daily close below it erases the whole October base. $2.9910 is the 21 October high, the first lower high that has to fall before any of the bullish counts become live again.

Hold $2.7630 and the first measured move is $3.4750 — the $0.3560 height of the 2.7630 to 3.1190 range projected off the top of that range — with $3.5500 and $3.6090 as the tests behind it. Lose $2.7630 on a daily close and the same $0.3560 projects to $2.4070, essentially a retest of the $2.4360 September base.

The probabilities are not symmetrical, and it is worth saying so plainly. The bullish case needs ICP to reclaim $2.9910 and then $3.1190 — two levels the market has already rejected twice. The bearish case needs one close under a floor that has held three times. Both are plausible; neither is a forecast.

What Would Make It Real

Three things turn this from a chart into a re-rating. First, usage: does SOL actually show up in ICP DeFi volume, or does ckSOL stay a technical demo? Watch the named venues rather than the announcement. Second, the ChatGPT funnel: a plugin in the directory is distribution only if people open it, and app-level read and write access is measurable if the project chooses to publish it.

Third, the long-cycle context. ICP's all-time high of $700.65 dates from May 2021, and its all-time low of $2.00 printed on 1 August 2026 — so the token is 40% above its worst print and roughly 99.6% below its best. Against a circulating supply near 558 million and a market capitalisation around $1.66 billion, this is a compressed asset being re-priced on infrastructure, not a discovery story.

The releases are documented — the ckSOL forum post, the mainnet launch coverage, the ChatGPT plugin listing and the Internet Computer developer docs. Prices and volumes above are Binance ICP/USDT spot daily candles from 8 September to 22 October 2026, taken around 06:00 UTC; supply and all-time-high and low figures are aggregator snapshots from the same week. Nothing here is investment advice — the levels are arithmetic, and the market decides which side of them holds.
