PEPE Climbed 13% in a Week While Bitcoin Stood Still on 3.6x Volume — and $0.00000479 Decides If It Was Shorts or Spot
PEPE rose 13.4% in a week on 3.6x volume while Bitcoin fell 0.5%. The $0.00000479 breakout is now the line between a short squeeze and real spot demand.

PEPE closed the 23 October session at $0.00000457, up 13.4% from the 16 October close of $0.00000403. Over the same seven days Bitcoin slipped 0.5%, Dogecoin fell 2.9% and Shiba Inu lost 2.4%. One frog meme out of the fifty largest coins went up while its own sector went down.
The move was not a slow drift. On 20 October PEPE opened at $0.00000416 and closed at $0.00000456, a 9.6% day. Then on 23 October it ran from a $0.00000440 open to a $0.00000511 high, the highest print since 22 September's $0.00000536, before closing at $0.00000457. Volume that session was 23.1 trillion PEPE, 3.63 times the twenty-day average of 6.37 trillion.

Nothing Was Announced. That Is the Point.
There was no listing, no upgrade, no tokenomics change and no regulatory headline bolted onto this move. 24/7 Wall St's write-up put the weekly gain at 23.4% at the time of publication, noted exactly that absence, and pointed at the two forces that can produce a chart like this one: a short squeeze, or spot buying.
A squeeze is mechanical. Shorts get liquidated, the venue closes them with market buys, the price ticks higher, the next stop gets closer, and the whole thing feeds itself until the fuel runs out. Spot buying is slower and stickier: somebody with a thesis is lifting coins off the order book and holding them.

The problem is that nobody can currently settle which one this was. Open interest and funding rates are the two numbers that would answer it, and neither has been in the public reporting around the move. What is visible is weaker: total crypto market value fell 2.4% in the same twenty-four hours, and overall trading volume dropped 24.6%. A small number of traders, in other words, not a wave of new money.
The Levels That Decide It
$0.00000479 is the first one. That is the 21 October high, and the ceiling that had held since 10 October. On 23 October the price cleared it intraday; by 24 October it was trading back at $0.00000445, roughly 12.9% under the high. A level that gets cleared and then handed back has not yet flipped from resistance to support.
$0.00000438 is the second. That is the 22 October low, with $0.00000433 the session before it: two higher lows sitting directly under the breakout. If a pullback holds above that shelf, the 23 October candle reads as a wick extension. If it gives way, the rally was a liquidation event with a hangover.
$0.00000511 is the third. That is the top of the 23 October range, and reclaiming it drags 22 September's $0.00000536 back into play as the next shelf. Above the market, inside the last three months of price action, that is the only resistance left with real prints behind it.
$0.00000378 is the fourth. That is the 17 October low, and it invalidates the entire structure. Down there the breakout is just a wide candle inside a downtrend.
Why a $2.1 Billion Coin Can Do This
PEPE's market cap is around $2.1 billion, against Bitcoin's 59.5% share of the whole market. That asymmetry is the story. Moving Bitcoin takes billions; moving PEPE takes a fraction of that, and a forced-covering wave worth a few tens of millions can print a green week that looks like conviction.
The longer window is just as honest about where this sits. PEPE is up 61.5% in ninety days from the $0.00000283 close of 27 July, and still around 82% below its December 2024 peak of $0.00002803. This is a coin rallying inside a repaired downtrend, not a coin printing new highs.
What to Watch Next
Three things, in order. First, a daily close back above $0.00000479, which is the difference between a breakout being tested and a breakout being rejected. Second, funding rates and open interest: if they stay hot while price stalls, the move was positioning, and positioning unwinds. Third, whether Dogecoin and Shiba Inu follow, because a memecoin rotation that drags the dog coins up behind it is a broad bid, while a frog rallying alone while the dogs bleed is a single-position event.
The 24 October session has so far answered the first question with a red candle. The other two are still open, and they are the ones that decide whether $0.00000511 was the start of something or the top of it. The live order book is on Binance's PEPE/USDT chart.
