SKY Ran 27% as Standard Chartered Called It 'DeFi's Federal Bank' — the $0.0870 March High Decides 0.0950 or 0.0793

SKY is up 27% in a week after Galaxy put $100M of sUSDS on its own balance sheet and Standard Chartered called Sky DeFi's federal bank. The 0.0870 gate is next.

The Old Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco — SKY ran 27% this week as Standard Chartered called the protocol 'DeFi's federal bank'

SKY Is 27% Higher in a Week and 0.5% Under Its March High

Sky Protocol's governance token is having its best stretch of 2026 — and it is happening while the broader market chops sideways. SKY traded at $0.0861 on Tuesday, up 9.4% in 24 hours, 27.4% in a week and 22% in a month, with a $2.03 billion market cap that puts it at rank 52 on CoinGecko.

The reason matters more than the percentage. On 23 September, Galaxy Digital (NASDAQ: GLXY) put $100 million of sUSDS — Sky's yield-bearing dollar — onto its own corporate balance sheet and approved the same asset as eligible collateral across its institutional trading business. Then on 11 September, Standard Chartered opened coverage of SKY with a price target of $0.325 for the end of 2028 and a label that has stuck: DeFi's federal bank.

The tape reacted to both. On Binance's SKY/USDT daily chart, 18 September printed a 17.2% session on 117.2 million SKY — the heaviest volume of the last forty sessions and roughly 2.4 times the twenty-day average — and 23 September, the day the Galaxy partnership landed, added 108 million more. Tuesday's high of $0.08661 is the highest price SKY has traded at in 120 days.

Galaxy Moved $100 Million On-Chain, Then Bought the Token

The partnership, announced by Sky Frontier Foundation and confirmed by Galaxy Digital's own disclosure, is the first time a Nasdaq-listed company has held sUSDS as a treasury asset. Galaxy funded the purchase from its own balance sheet, and its institutional clients can now post sUSDS as loan collateral while continuing to earn the Sky Savings Rate on the full position for the life of the loan.

The plumbing behind it is not new. Grove, one of Sky's Prime Agents, already runs a $500 million warehouse lending facility for Galaxy, and Galaxy has borrowed through Spark for its fund-of-receivables product. The $100 million sUSDS allocation sits on top of a $1.4 billion average institutional loan book — real credit demand, not a marketing headline.

"Sky was built so the same savings rate can be made available to anyone, from an individual saver to a Nasdaq-listed balance sheet." — Greg Feibus, global head of capital markets at Sky Frontier Foundation

Standard Chartered's Case: USDS Supply Is the Whole Story

Standard Chartered's initiation is the most explicit institutional valuation anyone has attached to a DeFi governance token this cycle, and it is fully documented in the bank's coverage summary and the follow-up analysis. Geoff Kendrick, the bank's global head of digital assets research, argued Sky behaves like a federal bank: it issues money in the form of stablecoins, runs a governance framework, and charges borrowers a wholesale rate of interest.

The arithmetic behind the $0.325 target is USDS supply growth, not hype. Kendrick's note says Sky's agents have borrowed $5.9 billion in USDS since the model launched in September 2024, and that the value flowing back to SKY holders — staking rewards first, buybacks second — could grow about fivefold by 2028. The bank expects SKY to roughly track Ethereum and outperform Bitcoin over that horizon. Its own stated risk is the boring one: slower-than-expected growth in yield-bearing stablecoins.

The Burn Is Live and Revenue Is Already Routed to Holders

Four days after the Standard Chartered note, Sky executed the first SKY burn — 2.86 million tokens bought on the open market with 5% of the protocol's monthly net surplus and permanently destroyed, as recorded by KuCoin's news desk. That turned the link between protocol performance and supply contraction from a governance promise into a recurring mechanism.

The funding engine behind it was rebuilt first. Stage 2 of SKY Staking Rewards went live on 13 August and pays stakers directly out of protocol revenue instead of the treasury. Sky closed Q2 2026 with its fifth consecutive profitable quarter: $107.35 million in gross revenue, a $33.29 million net surplus and $5.52 billion of sUSDS outstanding, up 149% year over year. The Sky financial dashboard shows USDS and DAI circulating supply at $9.8 billion as of 29 September, with a $15.75 million net revenue cycle routing $6.3 million into the Smart Burn Engine — 45% to buybacks for stakers, 45% to USDS staking rewards and 10% to buyback-and-burn.

The Level That Matters: $0.0870 First, Then $0.0950

Sky is also the largest issuer in the tokenized real-world-asset market, with $4.6 billion against a sector that has grown to $45.9 billion, per Token Terminal data published this week. That is the fundamental backdrop. The chart is what decides the next move.

The structure is a clean stair-step off the September low at $0.05559. SKY is up 26.7% this month and 54% from that low, and it enters Tuesday's close with six higher daily closes in a row. The 120-day high printed today at $0.08661, which leaves the token 0.5% under $0.0870 — the March 2026 high and the first real ceiling on the chart. Above it sit $0.0901 (April high), $0.0950 (September 2025 high) and the all-time high of $0.100535 from December 2024, still 14% away. Live pricing is on Binance's SKY/USDT market

Below, the first line is $0.0793 — the 23.6% retracement of the $0.05559 to $0.08661 leg — which lines up with the 26 September close at $0.07816 and the shelf SKY built between $0.0766 and $0.0790. A daily close back under $0.0769 (Tuesday's low) would stall the run; $0.0748 is the 38.2% retracement and the first level where the sequence breaks down.

What to watch next is concrete: whether Galaxy's collateral integration pulls more sUSDS onto institutional books, whether the next monthly burn cycle follows in October, and whether SKY can close a week above $0.0870 — the level that has capped every rally since March. None of that needs a new narrative. The protocol has already shipped the machine; the chart is just catching up to it.
