Franklin Templeton Just Turned Its $687M Tokenized Fund Into Bybit Collateral — Mantle's $0.7157 High Decides the Next Leg

Franklin Templeton headquarters in San Mateo — the firm's $686.6M tokenized money-market fund is now Bybit collateral, with a retail product planned on Mantle

Franklin Templeton did not launch a new fund on September 28. It gave an existing one a second job. Eligible institutional clients on Bybit can now pledge shares of the asset manager's tokenized money-market fund as collateral, keep collecting the fund's yield, and use the mirrored value to support USDT or USDC trading credit lines. crypto.news reported the expansion on the day it landed.

The distinction matters more than the headline. A tokenized treasury product that only sits in a wallet is a yield wrapper. The same product pledged against a trading book is collateral — and collateral is what turns a tokenized fund into market infrastructure.

What Actually Moves Between the Fund and the Exchange

The mechanics run through ByCustody. The tokenized shares stay off the exchange, in custody, while Bybit recognises their mirrored value inside the client's trading environment. The fund at the centre of it is the Franklin OnChain U.S. Government Money Fund: $686.64 million in net assets on August 31, a seven-day current yield of 3.57% and an effective yield of 3.63% as of September 16, with the portfolio holding U.S. government securities, cash and repurchase agreements.

This is a pattern that has been repeating all year. Franklin Templeton ran the same off-exchange collateral model with Binance from February 11, connected the Benji platform to MoonPay Trade in June, and extended it to Payward. CoinDesk framed the Bybit leg as the latest venue in a sequence rather than a one-off deal, and Franklin Templeton manages $1.7 trillion, so each venue it touches adds a working template.

The Word Mantle Is in the Same Announcement

The collateral program is only the first piece of the collaboration. Franklin Templeton and Bybit also plan a wallet-based tokenized wealth product, and the chain named for it is Mantle — aimed at investors who hold assets in crypto wallets instead of exchange accounts. Terms are undisclosed. The placement is the point: the retail wrapper is being built for the chain, not for the order book.

Mantle's Tokenized Book Went From 71 Assets to 1,473

Mantle's own numbers, published on September 25, put the tokenized asset count at 1,473, up from 71 at the start of 2026, with Distributed Asset Value for real-world assets at $476.10 million — more than doubling in a single month. The issuers named in the release are the tell: xStocks for tokenized equities and ETFs, Securitize for tokenized index funds, Ethena for yield-bearing stablecoins, and Paxos for regulated dollars. Read the Mantle release.

Blockworks Research data quoted by crypto.news puts stablecoin supply on the network near $550 million and tokenized assets near $330 million — roughly $880 million combined — against a treasury value of $1.8 billion and 985 distinct tokenized assets. USDT0 alone accounts for about $440 million, close to 80% of the stablecoin float. The tokenized equity menu went from 10 products in April to 155 by late June. Paxos-issued USDG went live on the network on September 3, and Mantle's treasury page read $2.41 billion as of September 14.

The chain has been assembling both halves of the same story: the assets to tokenize, and the venues that accept them as something more than a display position.

The Chart: $0.537 to $0.7157 in Two Weeks

MNT's tape is unusually tidy for a tokenization narrative. On the Gate MNT/USDT book, September 15 printed the swing low at $0.5370. September 18 delivered the reclaim candle that closed $0.6247. Then four consecutive higher highs: $0.6720 on September 22, $0.6972 on September 23, $0.6990 on September 24 and $0.7157 on September 26. Profit taking followed into the $0.6450 shelf on September 28, $0.6552 held on September 29, and September 30 has price back at $0.6848.

The token trades at $0.684 with a $2.26 billion market cap and a rank of 52, up 3.4% in 24 hours and roughly flat across the week — and 76% below the $2.8627 all-time high set in October 2025. Coinpaprika's MNT page carries the live reference.

The Levels That Decide It

$0.7157 is the gate. It is the September 26 high and the top of the whole two-week advance; a daily close above it opens $0.75, and then the $0.78 area where the leg off the $0.537 base measures. Below, $0.6650 and the $0.6450 shelf are exactly what the last three sessions defended. Lose $0.6450 on a daily close and the September 18-20 block at $0.607-$0.625 comes back into play, with $0.537 as the base itself. Invalidation is clean in both directions: a close under $0.6450 puts the reclaim on trial, a close above $0.7157 retires the pullback case.

What to Watch

Two things. First, whether the Mantle wallet product gets real terms — an unnamed retail wrapper is a headline, a launched one is a flow. Second, whether the tokenized book keeps compounding, because 1,473 assets and $476.10 million in distributed value is the number the next release has to beat, not the number it starts from.

By bringing liquidity into a range of assets via regulated rails, you prevent leakage of capital outside the region. — Andrew Forson, president of DeFi Technologies, to crypto.news

The chart's answer is shorter. Everything on the fundamental side is now measured in months. The $0.7157 line is measured in sessions.
