DTCC Puts US Treasuries On-Chain This Month and Canton Is One of Two Chains — CC's 0.1179 Retrace Decides 0.1299 or 0.1134

DTCC dates its DTC tokenization service to October and Canton is one of two launch chains. CC is 39% below its high, and 0.1179 decides what the month pays.

The US Treasury Building in Washington DC — the DTCC's DTC tokenization service is bringing US Treasury securities on-chain on the Canton Network

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation is the post-trade plumbing of the US securities market: its subsidiary, The Depository Trust Company, custodies more than $114 trillion in assets, by DTCC's own count. In December 2025 the SEC gave DTC a no-action letter covering a defined slice of what it holds — Russell 1000 constituents, major index ETFs and US Treasury bills, notes and bonds — valid for three years. DTCC's own timeline then named the month: the service launches in October 2026.

The service is not theoretical. On July 15, DTC converted assets it custodies into tokens and used them in real production trades — more than 30 firms, several asset classes, Treasury repo, Treasury buy and sell, equity trades, delivery-versus-payment and collateral pledges. It ran on two networks rather than one: LFDT's Besu, which DTCC runs privately, and Canton, which is public. DTCC's account of the July milestone puts the working group behind the design at more than 100 members and partners, from BlackRock and JPMorgan to Nasdaq, NYSE, Citi, HSBC, UBS, State Street, Circle and Robinhood.

Canton's own site is now telling firms how to prepare: get ready for the October launch, with documentation, playbooks and implementation resources for connecting to DTC-custodied tokenized Treasuries, equities and ETFs. Reporting on October 2 put the DTC service into commercial operation this month, on the same two chains, with Stellar expected to follow in early 2027. What DTCC has not published is a day, or how much of the $114 trillion becomes reachable on-chain at go-live. Both matter to how the market prices the chain hosting it.

CC Is Not a Bet on Volume — It Is a Bet on Burn

Canton Coin is the fee and reward token of the network's Global Synchronizer, the coordination layer that keeps cross-application workflows in sync and pays the operators who run it.

It has no pre-mine and no fixed cap. Canton's own note on FDV opens by saying the assumption of a 100 billion maximum supply is simply wrong: supply is dynamic and settles at a burn–mint equilibrium that moves with usage and market price. The network's own explanation of the mechanism is explicit about the loop — when activity is high relative to price, more CC is burned and supply growth slows, even turning deflationary; when activity is low, burn slows and supply expands.

What matters for the DTCC story is which side of that loop the fees land on. Usage fees on Canton are priced in US dollars per megabyte of data and settled by burning CC at the market price, while validator rewards are minted. More institutional traffic burns more; minted rewards add back.

"All the collected fees (traffic purchase, preapproval burn, preapproval renew burn, setup burn, dust expire, holding fee, sender change fees) are burnt." — DeFiLlama's methodology note for the Canton chain.

DeFiLlama's Canton fee dashboard is the cleanest way to watch it. At 06:35 UTC today it showed $1,734,855 in 24-hour fees, $12.16 million over seven days and $48.86 million over 30 days, with $652.9 million burned all-time. That is a real revenue line. It is also small against a $4.69 billion market cap, and it is the number that has to grow for CC to be paid for the assets DTCC is about to move.

Canton's own FDV note, published at the end of December, put the burn at roughly $900,000 a day and said more than a billion CC had already been burned. Under its own estimates, total supply stays below 42 billion in July 2026, 48 billion in July 2029 and 50 billion in July 2034 — and if Super Validator emissions were the only source of new coins, annual inflation would run under 0.1%.

September's Validator Wave: LSEG, a16z crypto, Paxos, Marex, Shinhan

While the price faded, the network kept signing institutions. On September 28, LSEG announced it had been appointed a Super Validator on Canton, expanding a role it already held through the cash application of its Digital Settlement House, which had been settling intraday repo in proof-of-concept runs. LSEG's own announcement puts a maximum earnable reward weight of 10 on the seat, with rewards held in escrow under the network's rules.

LSEG's was one of six Super Validator approvals recorded in the three weeks to September 25: Shinhan Asset Management at weight 10, TreasurySpring at a maximum of 4, a16z crypto at up to 10.0, LSEG at 10, Paxos at 8.0 tied to stablecoin treasury management workflows, and Marex at 10. The governance log keeps every one of them on the public record.

The money followed the seats. In June, Digital Asset — the company behind Canton, which works with more than 700 ecosystem participants — closed a $355 million round led by a16z crypto, with ABN Amro, Apollo Funds, BNP Paribas, Broadridge, Citadel Securities, CME Ventures, Coinbase Ventures, HSBC, S&P Global, SoFi and Tradeweb on the sheet. The company's own release names them. Shinhan Financial Group and Standard Chartered's venture arm were added to the round in July.

That is the bull case in one sentence: the institutions whose securities DTCC settles are already on the chain the tokenization service chose, whatever CC does this month.

The Tape: A 66% September Run, Then 23% Given Back Before the Launch

CC spent the first half of September grinding lower and bottomed at 0.08875 on September 16. Then it ran: 12 sessions to 0.14699 on September 28, a 65.6% move that landed on the same day LSEG published its Super Validator release — on the heaviest volume of the window, 37.2 million CC on Gate's daily candles. OKX's CC market shows the same shape with a session boundary four hours later.

Since then, it has given 22.9% back, with the low at 0.11335 on October 8 — the session Bitcoin flushed to 80,393. The tell is volume: the October 5 to October 8 sessions turned 3.2, 4.0, 3.8 and 5.3 million CC, a fraction of the 23 to 37 million that carried the rally.

The October 3 to October 6 stretch was the DTCC news being priced. CC closed October 3 at 0.12424, jumped to 0.12937 on October 4 as the report on the DTC service circulated, printed 0.12989 on October 5 and 0.12992 on October 6, then rolled over. That is a twin top at 0.1299, and it is the first level that has to go.

CC now trades at 0.11796 on Gate and 0.117867 on CoinGecko, which ranks it 25th by market cap at $4.69 billion. Coinpaprika's print is 0.11776, with $12.6 million turned over in 24 hours. Because practically the whole supply is circulating — 39.80 billion CC against the same total — fully diluted value and market cap are the same number. There is no unlock calendar to blame here.

It is also sitting on the 50% retracement of the September leg, at 0.11787. The 20-day average is 0.122667 and the 50-day is 0.114545, so price is inside a 7% box between two averages that are converging. ATR14 of 0.009063 is 7.7% of spot, and RSI14 is 39.1 — weak, but not washed out.

Three Levels for the DTCC Month

The bull case starts with a reclaim: 0.1227, the 20-day average, then 0.1299, the October twin top. A daily close through that opens 0.1332, the 23.6% retracement of the September leg, and then the 0.14699 high itself. That path needs the service to get a date and the burn to show up in DeFiLlama's daily line. Probability: about 35%.

The base case is a launch nobody can date. DTCC has committed to a month, not a day, and the scope at go-live is undisclosed. CC holding the 0.1134 to 0.1110 band — the October 8 low and the 61.8% retracement at 0.110998 — into November would leave the September structure intact while the fee line accrues. Probability: about 35%.

The bear case is a repeat of the last three weeks. A daily close under 0.1110 kills the September base, and the next rung is 0.1012, the 78.6% retracement, with the September 16 low at 0.08875 beyond it. That is the path if the launch slips or the burn stalls while minted validator rewards keep coming. Probability: about 30%.

Invalidation for the entire bullish read is one daily close below 0.1110. Above it, this is a range. Below it, the September move was a bounce.

What to Watch Before the Launch

Three things, and none of them is the candlestick. First, a date and a scope: DTCC says October and Canton is already briefing participants, but nobody has said how much of that $114 trillion becomes reachable on-chain at go-live, or whether this is a full launch or a staged rollout.

Second, the daily burn. If the 30-day fee line climbs from $48.86 million toward something that matters against a $4.69 billion market cap, the network's usage is reaching its token. If it stays flat while CC leans on the 0.10 to 0.12 base, Canton stays a network story its token is not yet paid to tell.

Third, whether the validator wave keeps going. Six Super Validator approvals in three weeks is a pace no other settlement chain is matching, and every one of them is a firm that can bring its own flows to the layer DTCC just chose. Quant's clearing story from September is the closest parallel on this site: a token ran first, and then the banks showed up.

Which is the strange part of this setup. The institutions are in, the service is dated to a month, and the token is 39.3% below its February high of 0.194152 with a 50% retracement under its feet. DTCC does not need CC to go up. But if the burn follows the volume, CC is the only way to be paid for what is about to settle.
