Reels of optical fiber cable on a street — DoubleZero's 1.66 billion 2Z unlock on October 2

At 00:00 UTC on October 2, DoubleZero releases 1,655,000,000 2Z from lock-up in a single moment. That is 47.7% of the token's tradable float arriving at once, the largest cliff on this week's unlock calendar and, by the measure that matters to a thin order book, the steepest one of the quarter. It lands exactly one year after 2Z began trading, and it lands into a chart that already ran to $0.08074 and handed back a third of the move.

2Z last changed hands at $0.05563 on Binance's 2Z/USDT pair on October 1, down 11.8% in 24 hours and 31.1% below the September 26 high. What follows is the arithmetic of the cliff, the structure it lands into, and the four levels that decide the first full session.

What unlocks at 00:00 UTC on October 2

The 1.655 billion 2Z comes out of seven buckets at once: Jump Crypto receives the largest share at 575 million tokens, Malbec Labs 350 million, institutions 300 million, the team 250 million, contributors 100 million, builders 50 million and validators 30 million. Five of those groups — Malbec Labs, institutions, team, contributors and builders — have never had a single token released before, because October 2, 2026 is the first anniversary of the original trading launch.

Against the 3.4695 billion 2Z measured in circulation on September 2, the cliff is a 47.7% expansion: 5.1245 billion tokens become tradable on paper, equal to 51.2% of the 10 billion maximum supply. At $0.05563 the release carries a nominal value of about $92 million. The same date switches on linear vesting for six of the seven buckets, ramping to a combined 31.1 million 2Z per week — roughly 4.45 million tokens a day, led by Jump Crypto at 11.02 million a week and Malbec Labs at 6.71 million. The schedule is public in DefiLlama's DoubleZero unlock tracker, which lists the tranches side by side with the daily rates.

That distinction is the whole game here. Unlocked tokens may be sold; they are not sold. But the protocol's own burn barely registers against the cliff: the DoubleZero Foundation's Q2 2026 holder update, published August 18, reported roughly $330,000 of revenue across 39 settlement epochs, equal to 4.35 million 2Z, of which 10% — 435,000 2Z — was destroyed. About 1.8 million 2Z has been burned since launch, which is the arithmetic of a first-year cliff rather than a forecast about it.

The market ran into the cliff, then gave it back

2Z spent September 8 through September 22 pinned between $0.04474 and $0.05453, with the all-time low of $0.04478 printed on September 16. Then the tape changed character. On September 24 the pair closed $0.05594 on 67.8 million 2Z, several times the 10-million-ish sessions that preceded it. On September 26 it spiked to $0.08074 and closed $0.07254 on 208.0 million 2Z, a twenty-fold volume expansion in two sessions.

The five sessions since have retraced that entire burst: $0.06799, $0.06769, $0.06508, $0.05977 and $0.05563 today, with the intraday low at $0.05481. The 47.7% float expansion is not a surprise to anyone who traded that spike — it has been on the calendar since the token listed — and the analytics layer has already booked it: CoinGecko now lists 5.12 billion 2Z as circulating, up from 3.47 billion, with the market cap at $284 million and a fully diluted value of $555 million. The token remains 93.8% below its October 2, 2025 all-time high of $0.8937, and about 24% above the September 16 low.

What DoubleZero actually sells: fiber

It is worth remembering what is unlocking. DoubleZero is a network layer for blockchains and other distributed systems: it routes validator traffic over dedicated fiber links contributed by independent operators instead of the public internet, cutting the latency that consensus has to tolerate. 2Z is an SPL token on Solana, which means every token that moves after the cliff shows up in the same explorer data anyone can read — and the network's economics are metered in the token.

The company's own materials, the DefiLlama emissions tracker and the Q2 update agree on the structure of the supply. They also agree that the demand side of the ledger is a working revenue line, not a promise: 39 settlement epochs in a single quarter. Whether that revenue stream is enough to absorb 4.45 million tokens of new vesting per day at a $0.05 handle is precisely the question the next few weeks answer. The independent dilution walkthrough is in CryptoTicker's unlock breakdown, and the tranche-by-tranche split is in Edgen's cliff report.

The levels that decide the first full session

The retrace leg runs from the September 16 low of $0.04474 to the September 26 high of $0.08074. Its 38.2% retracement sits at $0.06699, the midpoint at $0.06274, the 61.8% at $0.05849 and the 78.6% at $0.05244 — and today's $0.05481 low held above that deepest line. The shelf to defend is $0.0525 to $0.0500, where the September 24 breakout candle originated and where the round $0.05 sits; lose it on a daily close and the $0.0460 to $0.0448 floor, the pre-breakout range and the all-time low, is the next reference.

Above, the first gate is $0.0585, the 61.8% retracement that today's candle closed beneath. A daily close back above it reopens $0.0627, the September 24 high, then $0.0670 at the 38.2% and the $0.08074 spike high that started all of this. The honest way to hold the two sides: a cliff is a supply event, so the bull case is not that nothing sells — it is that 24 hours of new float finds bids at $0.05, and the first daily close decides which side of the range the market wants to be on.

Worth following: whether the largest recipient tranche moves to exchanges, how much of the 4.45 million daily vesting the order book absorbs, and whether the $0.0525 shelf survives the first full session after the print. The token contract, the tranche schedule and the burn ledger are all public — read them at DoubleZero before you take a side. This is not investment advice.
