Bitcoin Just Tagged $78K — Is the Bear Market Over? The 5 Coins With 10–1000x Potential
Bitcoin hit the $78,000 area on the biggest short squeeze of the cycle. If the bear is ending, these five asymmetric plays — AERO, LTC, PEPE, DOGE and DOOD — are where the next multiples are hiding.

Bitcoin just tagged the $78,000 area for the first time in months. As I write this it's trading at $77,300, up more than 6% in a single day — the strongest move of the year. Two weeks ago the market was arguing about $62,000. Today it's arguing about the top. Something shifted.
What actually happened
The rally started as a regulation story. President Trump publicly urged Congress to pass the CLARITY Act — the bill that hands digital assets a clear legal category and splits oversight between the CFTC and the SEC. The House already passed it 294–134; the Senate vote is expected in September. On top of that, the Treasury doubled its buybacks of long-dated bonds, crushing yields and pushing money into risk assets, while $261.8 million flowed into spot BTC and ETH ETFs in a single day. Per CNBC, the push came straight from the White House.

The result was the second-largest short squeeze in Bitcoin's history. Leveraged traders who bet against the rally got liquidated in waves, and price ripped from $71,800 to the $78,000 area in hours. On-chain data shows the whale selling that capped every bounce since June has stopped. The bill text itself is here.
Is the bottom really in?
No one rings a bell at the bottom. But the checklist of what a bear market end looks like is getting ticked off in real time. Miners capitulated first — network hashrate dropped 21% in a month as unprofitable operators switched machines off. Then the leverage got flushed — the biggest short liquidation cascade since 2021. Then institutions started accumulating — UBS tripled its Bitcoin ETF stake, Santander bought in for the first time ever, and daily ETF inflows turned consistently positive. Now the regulatory overhang that defined this entire bear market is being voted out of existence.

None of this guarantees September's Senate vote goes through. If it slips, expect the range to return and the last weak hands to get shaken out. But here's the thing: the coins that deliver 10–1000x in a cycle are never bought after the confirmation. They're bought when the bottom is 'probably' in — and the structure says it is.

1. AERO — the merger with a Uniswap-sized ceiling
Aerodrome is Base's central liquidity hub — the DEX where most of the chain's volume actually settles, powered by the vote-lock model that made Velodrome famous. It's been beaten down hard: at $0.48 it sits 79% below its December 2024 all-time high of $2.32, with a market cap of just $472 million against $261 million in total value locked. The chart looks dead. The story is not.
In November 2025, Dromos Labs — the team behind both protocols — announced the merger of Aerodrome (Base) and Velodrome (Optimism) into a single unified DEX called Aero, built on a new engine, METADEX03. Here's the part that matters: the merged protocol isn't staying on two L2s. Aero is expanding to Ethereum mainnet and Circle's Arc chain — a true multi-EVM liquidity hub across Base, Optimism, Ethereum and Arc. Combined TVL at announcement was $530 million; the team's cited opportunity is an $80 billion market. Audits are nearly done and the launch window is September 2026. Existing holders get 94.5% of the new token allocation — the merger is designed to reward the people already in.
Now the math. Uniswap — the DEX everyone compares Aero to — currently has a $2.49 billion market cap. If Aero simply matched Uniswap's market cap today, the token would trade around $2.54 — roughly 5.3x from here. A 10x would put AERO at $4.80 and a $4.7 billion cap, still below Uniswap's 2021 peak. The bull case is that a merged, multi-chain Aero with a working emissions flywheel becomes the liquidity layer of the entire Ethereum ecosystem — and that's a ceiling nobody has priced in while the token trades at $0.48. Live data: AERO on CoinGecko.
2. LTC — the longest accumulation base in crypto finally gets a catalyst
Litecoin has one of the flattest, longest accumulation structures in the history of crypto. It hit $410 in May 2021 — and has spent the five years since basing between roughly $50 and $150 while the rest of the market cycled. Today it trades at $51.82, 87% below its all-time high, with a $4 billion market cap. Five years of sideways is not boredom. It's distribution ending and supply changing hands.
The catalyst that changes the narrative is LitVM — an EVM-compatible zero-knowledge rollup built on Litecoin using BitcoinOS and Polygon's CDK. It brings smart contracts, DeFi and tokenized assets to Litecoin for the very first time. The LiteForge testnet went live in April 2026 and has already processed over 75 million transactions; mainnet is targeted for Q4 2026 — full technical breakdown here. Meanwhile institutions are quietly buying: Lite Strategy and Luxxfolio Holdings added LTC to their corporate treasuries in late 2025, and spot Litecoin ETFs have been trading in the US since early 2025.
And before you call $600 fantasy — look at what already happened to the other old PoW coin nobody believed in. Zcash bottomed at $16.08 in July 2024. It trades at $671 today — a 42x move — with an $11.3 billion market cap, top 12. That's the re-rating that happens when a hated, battle-tested PoW chain gets a real catalyst in a bull market. LTC at $120 would be a $9.3 billion cap — smaller than Zcash is right now. LTC at $600 would be $46.5 billion: above its own 2021 peak, but a smaller multiple expansion than Zcash just delivered. If Litecoin does even a third of what Zcash did, the $120–$600 range isn't a dream. It's the pattern.
3. PEPE — the frog that inherited Shiba's throne
Every cycle has one meme that becomes the reference asset for its chain. In 2021 it was Shiba Inu on Ethereum. This cycle it's PEPE. The frog token hit a $12 billion market cap in December 2024, then gave back 86% of it in the bear — it now trades at $0.00000376 with a $1.58 billion cap, and it was up 17% in the last 24 hours while the market turned.
The math is the same math that made Shiba. Shiba Inu's peak market cap was roughly $41 billion in October 2021. PEPE at half of that — $20 billion — is a 12.7x from today's price. PEPE at Shiba's full peak is 26x. And unlike Shiba in 2021, PEPE has actual infrastructure: it's listed on Coinbase, Binance and Robinhood, it's the highest-liquidity meme on Ethereum by a wide margin, and meme ETF filings have put the whole category on Wall Street's radar. Live data: PEPE on CoinGecko.
People will tell you meme coins are dead. Then the next green candle tells them otherwise. On Ethereum — the chain with the deepest retail liquidity in crypto — there is exactly one token with the liquidity profile, the brand and the history to be the 'next Shiba'. It's the frog.
4. DOGE — the $1 case is finally backed by law
Dogecoin at $1 has been a meme of a meme for six years. But look at what actually changed. In March 2026, the SEC and CFTC jointly classified Dogecoin as a digital commodity — the same legal category as gold and oil. The regulatory wall that always blocked institutional money from touching DOGE is gone. That's not a small detail; it's the unlock.
Then there's everything else. X's payments rail is live and DOGE remains the platform's native tipping currency — the integration the community has waited years for, attached to the largest social platform in the West. The D.O.G.E. department put the name in front of every human on earth. Merged mining with Litecoin keeps the network secured by the same Scrypt ecosystem. And the 2021 all-time high of $0.73 was reached with a fraction of today's infrastructure, listing surface and legal clarity.
Now the numbers. DOGE trades at $0.0845 with a $13.1 billion cap. A $1 DOGE is a ~$155 billion market cap — top-3 territory, and yes, that's ambitious. But it's 'only' an 11.8x from here, and Dogecoin did 300x in the 2020–2021 cycle from its cycle low. Every cycle it has made a new all-time high, and $1 sits just 37% above the old record. In a supercycle where a meme coin is legally a commodity and the richest man on earth keeps tweeting about it, the path from $0.08 to $1 is a series of small, very predictable pumps — not a miracle.
5. DOOD — a $10 million token attached to a billion-dollar brand
This is the asymmetry play of the list. Doodles is one of the most famous NFT brands in crypto history — a top-tier collection from the 2021 bull that turned itself into a real entertainment company, with Pharrell Williams as chief creative officer, shows, music, retail products and a studio pipeline. In May 2025 the brand launched its IP token, DOOD, on Solana with a BSC bridge. Today it trades at $0.00136 with a market cap of roughly $10.5 million and a fully diluted value of $13.5 million — down 92% from its October 2025 high, ranked around #1,140. Live data: DOOD on CoinGecko.
Now the comparison that matters. Pudgy Penguins — the same IP-token playbook — launched PENGU in December 2024 and hit a ~$2.8 billion market cap within weeks. DOOD has a brand that is arguably bigger, on the chain with the most active meme liquidity in the world, at a market cap roughly 1/270th of PENGU's peak. A $100 million cap — a 10x — is the base case if Doodles ships anything real this cycle. A $1 billion cap — 100x — is the PENGU-scale case, and it happens if the collectibles meta returns and DOOD becomes the reference IP token of Solana.
The honest part: 1000x from here would be a $10.5 billion cap — lottery-tier, only in a full mania where IP tokens re-rate like BONK and DOGE did. But that's the point of asymmetric bets. You don't need the 1000x. You need the position where a small bet becoming $50,000 is a plausible outcome, and the downside is a brand that isn't going anywhere. Ultra-low cap, real team, real brand, real liquidity for its size — that's the definition of a coin that can 100x before anyone on the news talks about it.
The bottom line
The coins that do 10–1000x in a cycle share three traits: they're bought in despair, they have a catalyst the market hasn't priced, and their market cap is small relative to the narrative. AERO has a merger, an Ethereum expansion and a Uniswap-sized ceiling at 5x less valuation. LTC has a five-year accumulation base and a smart-contract upgrade with a 42x precedent. PEPE is the reference meme of the deepest retail chain in crypto. DOGE has legal commodity status and the $1 psychology. DOOD has a $10 million cap and a billion-dollar brand.
Not all of them will hit. That's not how this works — the winners pay for the losers. But the structure is finally in place: Bitcoin above the range, regulation turning, liquidity returning. September's Senate vote on the CLARITY Act is the macro swing factor to watch. If it passes, the bear market narrative dies on the floor of Congress — and these are the setups that were bought while everyone else was still arguing about the bottom.
