Uniswap's First CME Futures Contract Trades Monday — 34% Off Its September Peak, and $7.06 Decides $8.47 or $6.00

CME opens UNI futures on Monday, 19 October, on 10,000-token contracts — while Uniswap's fee switch printed $15.5M in September. $7.06 decides $8.47 or $6.00.

Futures pit traders at the Chicago Board of Trade — Uniswap UNI futures begin trading on CME 19 October 2026

What CME actually lists on Monday

CME Group opens cash-settled Uniswap futures on Monday, 19 October, under the release it published on 22 September pending regulatory review. There are two sizes: a standard contract of 10,000 UNI and a micro contract of 1,000, trading around the clock seven days a week, with a basis-trade-at-index-close line for accounts that want the settlement print rather than the intraday price.

At $7.17 a standard contract is roughly $71,700 of notional. That is a professional position size, not a savings plan, and it makes UNI the first token issued by a decentralized exchange to carry a CME contract.

The exchange has been widening that line all year. Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar, Avalanche and Sui futures launched earlier in 2026 and, by CME's own count, contributed more than $1 billion of notional in the first three quarters. Its half-year crypto book averaged 279,800 contracts a day ($8.3 billion) with 264,600 contracts of open interest ($15.4 billion).

The September bid that front-ran the listing

UNI closed 16 September at $6.712. Seven sessions later it printed a $10.942 high — 63% in a week and a half — and the biggest single day landed exactly on the announcement: $8.995 to a $10.226 close on 22 September, up 13.7% on 22.1 million UNI of volume against 13.0 million the session before.

The futures headline was not the only thing in that bid. UNI holders flipped the protocol's fee switch in December 2025 alongside a one-time 100 million UNI treasury burn, and September was the first month where the revenue it captures was big enough to price. Whatever the mix, CME's news arrived in a market that had already repriced.

What the token actually earns now

The buyback became measurable this quarter. DefiLlama puts Uniswap protocol revenue — the slice routed to holders, which the fee switch converts into UNI buys and burns — at $15.49 million in September, the highest month on record and 66% above August's $9.33 million. October has printed $4.32 million in eighteen days; the trailing 30 days are $9.14 million and the trailing year $57.6 million.

At $7.17, September's revenue is about 2.16 million UNI, or roughly 0.35% of the 624.7 million tokens in circulation. Hold that pace and the burn runs near 4.1% of the float a year. That is the bull case in one line: the token now has a cash-flow statement, and the cash flow is spent on its own supply.

The top of the funnel is still widening. Uniswap moved $75.18 billion of DEX volume over 30 days and $1.20 billion in the last 24 hours, against $204.4 million of total fees in September and a $4.47 billion market cap at rank 31 — still 84% below the $45.01 all-time high it set in May 2021.

The chart: a 0.786 retest after a 34% giveback

Everything sits on the retracement of the 16 September low at $6.00 to the 23 September high at $10.942. UNI is 34.4% below that peak and parked almost exactly on the 0.786 retrace at $7.058 — the last fib line before the entire September advance is handed back.

It has already put a wick under that line. The 13 October session swept $6.742 and reclaimed, and the market has since built a floor at $6.94 to $7.00 under a ceiling at $7.71 (the 10 October high) and $7.36 (today). The last three daily closes — $7.334, $7.150, $7.173 — sit inside a 2.6% band, which is what a market waiting for a date looks like.

Above, the ladder is $7.888 (0.618), $8.471 (0.5) and $9.054 (0.382), the shelf where September's heaviest volume changed hands. Below $6.742 there is very little support until the $6.00 to $6.17 base the whole rally started from.

What Monday actually tells you

A listing is not a bid. Yahoo Finance flagged that CME's previous altcoin contracts, Cardano and Chainlink, fell 35% to 38% into their first sessions, and UNI has already paid 34% of that pattern from its own high. The number to watch on Monday is not the opening print but the first week of open interest and the sign of the basis: a thin book trading at a discount says institutions are hedging a token they already own, not accumulating one.

The second date is 1 November, when October's revenue is final. September's $15.49 million is only a record until the next print either confirms it as a baseline or exposes it as one good month. Fee-switch revenue is the one input on this chart that does not depend on the futures contract existing.

Levels, not predictions: $7.06 held keeps the September structure alive, $8.47 is the first genuine test of everyone who bought the top, and a weekly close under $6.74 returns the whole advance.
