Ethena's Investor Unlock Ends Monday With the Sellers Already Bought Out — and $0.2300 Is the Line That Decides

Ethena's last investor tokens unlock Monday, ending vesting 17 months early — but the sellers were already bought out, and $0.2300 decides the next leg.

Monday Ends Ethena's Investor Vesting — 17 Months Early

Monday, October 5 is the last day of Ethena's investor vesting. The foundation is releasing every remaining locked investor token in a single step, retiring a monthly calendar that has been drip-feeding supply into the market since the April 2024 launch. The original plan released roughly 78.125 million ENA a month through March 2028. Monday collapses what is left of it into one date.

The size everyone is quoting comes with an asterisk. Trackers derive about 1.41 billion ENA from the published schedule — roughly 14% of circulating supply — but Ethena has never published a number, because that figure is a remainder, not an announcement, as TrustSwap's breakdown sets out. RootData models the same event at about 171.88 million ENA, roughly $47 million. The two ends sit eight times apart, so the token count, not the dollar headline, is the fact worth holding: at Monday's $0.2398 print, the tracker number is about $338 million of notional supply.

As a result, the investors who have been selling into the market during the relevant time frame now hold no unvested ENA which could be sold into the market in the future. — Ethena Foundation, August 27 ecosystem update

The Sellers Were Bought Out Before the Unlock

The Foundation split its large early backers — everyone originally allocated more than 0.25% of supply — into two groups on August 27. Investors who sold even a single token after the cycle peak of October 10, 2025 had their locked tokens bought out in over-the-counter transactions across the preceding two weeks. Fourteen wallets took the deal. One seller refused.

Investors who never sold were offered a repurchase at par — full price, no discount. Not a single one agreed. The practical result is that Monday's release lands on holders who chose to keep their tokens, while the cohort that was selling into strength is already out of the cap table. That is the honest bull case for the print, and it is separate from anything a chart says.

StablecoinX's 20% Comes With Strings Attached

The second overhang is StablecoinX, the Nasdaq-listed ENA treasury vehicle, which holds about 3.03 billion ENA — roughly 20% of total supply — under lockup terms carried in its SEC filings, as TokenPost reported. Those restrictions lift on October 5 as well, but every sale, transfer or hedge still needs the Foundation's prior written approval, at least five business days' notice, and the Foundation holds a right of first refusal.

After Monday, about 12% of supply stays locked — all of it team, ecosystem and Foundation inventory. Team tokens keep their original monthly schedule into March 2028; Foundation tokens run to April 2028. Investor vesting does not come back.

The Buyback Is Approved — and Still Not Armed

Holders approved the fee switch on September 2 with 17,786,102 ENA in favour, none against and none abstaining, across 88 votes against a 5 million quorum. The Foundation confirmed the result on September 8. From activation, 95% of eligible net protocol revenue goes into buying ENA on the open market, and every purchase is meant to be posted to a public dashboard — the full accounting is in this unlock breakdown.

The catch is a threshold, not a vote. Nothing gets bought until USDe's circulating supply reaches $7.5 billion, with the take rate stepping from 5% at $7.5 billion to 10% at $10 billion, 15% at $15 billion and 20% at $20 billion. USDe sits at $4.90 billion, which leaves the programme about 53% of growth short of its first purchase — and even at the first tier, an illustrative $22.5 million of annual buybacks is smaller than the roughly 134 million ENA the team and Foundation still release between them each month.

Standard Chartered's Geoffrey Kendrick put the first bank price target on ENA on September 30, per the note coverage: $0.42 by the end of 2026, $1.10 by end-2027 and $2.00 by end-2028, assuming USDe grows from $4.9 billion to $40 billion. His case is arithmetic — at that size, buybacks would equal roughly 23% of ENA's market value, which the bank calls unsustainable, so the token has to reprice for the programme to stay affordable. Also due this month: the Master Framework Agreement that assigns the protocol's intellectual property and residual economics to the Foundation rather than to Ethena Labs equity holders.

What the Chart Says Into the Print

ENA is coiling under a run of lower highs from the September 27 peak: $0.2811 on September 30, $0.2783 on October 1, $0.2521 on October 2 — while the floor held at $0.2279 and then $0.2299 on successive sessions. The last trade is $0.2398, up 3.1% in 24 hours, down 11.5% on the week, but still up 47.9% in 30 days and 165% in 60 days. CoinGecko puts market value at $2.42 billion, 46th overall, and 84% below the $1.52 record from April 2024.

The levels are clean. A daily close through $0.2521 reopens $0.2783 to $0.2811 and then the $0.2946 high. Lose $0.2279 and the path runs to the $0.2100-$0.2043 shelf left behind by the September 19-20 breakout, with $0.1800 behind it. Monday is the catalyst, the buyout campaign is the floor argument, and USDe's supply line is what arms the bid.
