Bitcoin Cash was the forgotten branch of the Bitcoin family for most of 2026. It printed its 2026 low of $181.00 on June 24 and was still trading at $239.10 as recently as August 30. Ten sessions later it traded at $366.40. This time the move had a documented catalyst, a counterparty and a date on it.

What CME Announced — and What It Actually Changes

On September 22 CME Group said it will launch futures on Bitcoin Cash and Uniswap on October 19, subject to regulatory review. The contracts come in standard and Micro sizes: 250 BCH and 25 BCH for Bitcoin Cash, 10,000 UNI and 1,000 UNI for Uniswap, all trading on CME's round-the-clock platform and clearing through its existing financing infrastructure, per CME Group's announcement.

For BCH the practical change is the venue, not the coin. Until now the only way to take margined, exchange-cleared exposure to Bitcoin Cash sat on offshore venues. From October 19 it is a regulated US futures contract sitting alongside Bitcoin, Ether, XRP, Solana, Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar, Avalanche and Sui futures — BCH and UNI become the tenth and eleventh single-asset crypto products on the exchange. The scale of that book is not trivial: CME's crypto futures and options averaged 279,800 contracts a day in the first half of 2026, about $8.3 billion of notional, with average open interest of 264,600 contracts ($15.4 billion). Its 2026 altcoin additions have already contributed more than $1 billion of notional value year to date, according to the exchange's derivatives suite update.

The market did not wait for October. BCH moved 29% in the September 22 session itself — the day of the announcement — and the contract specifications make clear why desks care: a 250 BCH standard contract is roughly $83,700 of exposure at today's price, and the 25 BCH Micro gives smaller books a way in without the notional.

The Other Half of the Trade: a BCH ETF That Is Not Approved Yet

The same week, on September 11, Grayscale filed Amendment No. 1 to Form S-3 (registration number 333-290128) to convert the Grayscale Bitcoin Cash Trust into an exchange-traded product listed on NYSE Arca under the ticker BCHG. The filing's own numbers are modest by ETF standards: a net asset value of $76.6 million as of June 30, $1.63 per share, roughly 0.0081 BCH per share, Coinbase named as prime broker and Coinbase Custody as custodian, and creations and redemptions in 10,000-share baskets once the registration is effective.

Why a wrapper matters more than it sounds: between August 2020 and June 2026 the trust's OTCQX shares traded at premiums as high as 1,852% and discounts as steep as 59% to net asset value. An ETF creation mechanism is built to compress exactly that gap — it does not make the coin better, it makes the coin easier to own inside a brokerage account.

One caveat has to be stated plainly, because the headline versions of this story leave it out: the amended prospectus itself says the basis for the NYSE Arca listing has not been approved and that no date can be named. Grayscale has filed similar conversion paperwork for its Hedera and Litecoin trusts, and the listing rule still has to clear. The filing's own caveat is the part to track, not the ticker.

What the Price Actually Did With Both Headlines

Look at the candles rather than the commentary. The September 22 session opened at $267.30, ran to a $348.10 high and closed at $345.10 — a 29.1% day — on 347,920 BCH of volume, which is 6.5 times the average of the previous twenty sessions (53,759). The next session printed $366.40, the highest print since May 22 ($382.30), on 318,016 BCH — 5.9 times the pre-news average. Two sessions, roughly 666,000 BCH traded, against a network issuing 512 BCH a day.

Since then the tape has tightened instead of rolling over. Four sessions produced four rising lows — $324.10, then $324.60, $327.80 and $332.30 — with closes of $337.50, $338.90, $343.30 and $334.70. Volume is drying up hard: September 26 traded 29,648 BCH, just 0.33 times the twenty-day average of 90,350. That is a coil, not distribution — yet.

The counterweight is how extended the move is. RSI(14) on the daily sits at 81.8 and ATR(14) is $23.59, about 7.0% of spot. Price is trading 25% above its twenty-day average of $264.68 and 67% above the two-hundred-day average of $200.17. BCH is also still roughly 50% below its January 5 high of $669.60, and up about 85% from the June 24 low. Live BCH is $334.90 with a market capitalisation near $6.72 billion and a rank of 24 — the whole week is +33.2%.

The Levels That Decide the Next Leg

Measure the release leg from the September 22 low of $261.60 to the $366.40 high — $104.80 of range. The 0.236 retracement is $341.66, the 0.382 is $326.37, the midpoint is $314.00 and the 0.618 is $301.63. The wider leg from the August 30 low of $239.10 puts the 0.236 at $336.36 and the 0.382 at $317.77, which is the band the price is sitting inside right now.

The bullish path: hold the $332–$336 shelf — the 0.236 of both legs plus four consecutive rising lows — then reclaim $345–$348, take out $366.40, and the next supply is the May cluster at $382.30, $404.80 and $416.80. The bearish path: a daily close under $324 opens $317.77, then $301.30, which is the August 21 breakout base that started this whole leg, then the $287.72–$284.02 zone, with $266.90 — the September 22 open — behind it.

Each side has a clean invalidation. A daily close below $324 breaks the post-news structure and returns the coin to the August range. A decisive break above $366.40 means there is no supply left overhead until the May levels, which is the scenario the volume profile actually supports so far.

Why the Supply Side Is Not the Bitcoin Trade

The issuance math is worth knowing before the next halving headline. Bitcoin Cash currently mints about 512 BCH a day — 164 blocks against a 3.125 BCH block subsidy — which is roughly $171,000 at $334. That entire daily supply is small next to the $12.6 million of BCH that traded on Binance alone in the same twenty-four hours.

The next halving lands at block 1,050,000. At block 970,377 that is 79,623 blocks away — about 553 days, or April 2028 — when the subsidy drops to 1.5625 BCH per block. A thin, dated issuance schedule plus a new regulated venue plus a pending ETF conversion is the full explanation for how a forgotten coin posted a 33% week on one announcement.

So the checklist is short and all of it is scheduled: does $324 hold on a daily close, does the October 19 launch clear regulatory review, and does the SEC move on the NYSE Arca listing rule behind BCHG. Everything else on the chart is noise around those three.
