Bitcoin's Next Halving Is 576 Days Away — the Live Block-Height Countdowns for BTC, BCH, LTC and ZEC
Bitcoin's next halving is 83,057 blocks out — about 576 days. Live block-height countdowns for BTC, BCH, LTC and ZEC, plus what each subsidy pays today.
Bitcoin's next halving does not have a date. It has a block number: 1,050,000. At the moment this is written the chain is sitting at block 966,943, which leaves 83,057 blocks to go — roughly 576 days at the ten-minute target, landing somewhere around mid-April 2028. When that block is found, the subsidy that miners receive for every block they win is cut in half, from 3.125 BTC to 1.5625 BTC, and it happens automatically, with no vote, no announcement and no way to postpone it.
Three other proof-of-work chains are on the same kind of clock, and they are closer than most people assume. Litecoin is 316 days from its next cut. Bitcoin Cash gets there in 566 days. Zcash, the furthest out, has 622. Here is where each of them actually stands, and what the subsidy is worth at today's prices.

Bitcoin: 83,057 Blocks, About 576 Days, and a Subsidy Cut to 1.5625 BTC
Bitcoin halves every 210,000 blocks. The 2024 halving put the reward at 3.125 BTC, and the next one arrives at block 1,050,000 — which also means the current epoch is 60.4% complete: 126,943 of its 210,000 blocks have already been mined. At a live price of $78,256, one block is worth $244,550 in subsidy alone. Across the 144 blocks the network mints per day, that is 450 BTC — about $35.2M of new supply every day.
After the halving, that same day produces 225 BTC, roughly $17.6M at today's price. That is the entire mechanical purpose of a halving: cut the flow of new coins in half and let the market decide what happens next. It is also why the four-year cycle keeps being watched — the schedule is the only part of crypto that is genuinely fixed. The full countdown, down to the second and the block, is on the Bitcoin halving page.

The ladder so far: 50 BTC (2009) → 25 (2012) → 12.5 (2016) → 6.25 (2020) → 3.125 (2024) → 1.5625 (2028).
Bitcoin Cash Shares Block 1,050,000 — and It Gets There 1,532 Blocks Early
Bitcoin Cash uses the same SHA-256 algorithm and the same 210,000-block interval, which means it halves at block 1,050,000 as well. But the two chains are not at the same height. BCH is at block 968,475 while Bitcoin is at 966,943 — a 1,532-block lead, about 10.6 days at the ten-minute target. The result is that identical halving block produces two different dates: Bitcoin Cash around April 2, 2028 and Bitcoin around April 13, 2028.
This is the cleanest argument for counting blocks instead of days. A countdown built on the calendar would tell you both chains halve on the same afternoon. A countdown built on the live height shows you BCH getting there eleven days first. The Bitcoin Cash countdown tracks its own height, with the reward moving from 3.125 BCH to 1.5625 BCH.
Litecoin Is Next: 182,302 Blocks to July 2027
Litecoin is the nearest event of the four. It halves every 840,000 blocks on a 150-second block time, so the chain produces about 576 blocks a day — four times Bitcoin's pace. At block 3,177,698 there are 182,302 blocks left, which puts the next halving around July 27, 2027, about 316 days out.
The reward drops from 6.25 LTC to 3.125 LTC. At $54.10 that is $338 per block today and roughly 3,600 LTC — close to $195,000 — mined daily. The Litecoin countdown updates every block, so the date shifts as the network's hashrate moves.
Zcash Is Last on the Calendar — and Pays the Most Per Block Right Now
Zcash also uses an 840,000-block interval, but with a 75-second block time it produces about 1,152 blocks a day. The subsidy is 0.78125 ZEC, and with ZEC trading at $1,148.29 that single number makes Zcash the most valuable subsidy of the four in dollar terms: about $897 per block, or 900 ZEC — just over $1M — of new issuance every day. That is more daily dollar issuance than Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin combined at current prices.
The next cut takes it to 0.390625 ZEC at block 4,200,000, with 717,033 blocks to go — around May 28, 2028, the longest runway on the list. The Zcash countdown has the live numbers, including the exact block height each estimate is recalculated from.
Why This Countdown Reads Block Height, Not a Calendar
A halving is triggered by a block number, not a date, so any date is a projection. If hashrate rises, blocks arrive faster than the ten-minute target and the estimated date pulls in; if miners leave, it slides out. Every figure on our Crypto Halvings tracker is derived from the live network block height of each chain — Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin and Zcash on one page, with a second-by-second countdown, blocks remaining, current and next reward, and the estimated date that moves with the chain.
Exact, live countdowns to the next halving for Bitcoin, Litecoin, Zcash and Bitcoin Cash — calculated from the real block height, not guesses.
That also makes the page useful right after a price move. The same block number can be worth $244,550 per block or half that, depending only on what the market is doing, and the countdown itself never changes because of price — it only changes because blocks are found.
What a Halving Actually Does to a Mining Payout
Mining revenue is the block subsidy plus transaction fees. Cut the subsidy in half and the maths of every rig on the network changes the same day, at the same block, for everyone. Price has to roughly double to keep revenue flat — which is exactly why halving years get so much attention from both miners and traders.
The practical move is to model it before the event, not after. Our mining profitability calculator uses live network data — difficulty, block reward and 28 fiat currencies — so you can see what a 270 TH/s rig earns at your own electricity price today, and what it looks like when the reward drops. When a payout lands in a different currency or subunit, the crypto converter handles 19 coins and 28 currencies at once, including SATS, GWEI and DROPS.
Four clocks, four block numbers: 83,057 for Bitcoin, 81,525 for Bitcoin Cash, 182,302 for Litecoin and 717,033 for Zcash. The nearest cut of the four is Litecoin's in July 2027 — but every one of these numbers changes as blocks are mined, which is why the tracker recalculates on each one.
